Software: ONLINE SERVER TESTER Version 8.3
Some of the most common mistakes you can make when installing your RBS Server, EVEN after
reading (and ignoring) the detailed instructions provided with it, are to install the RBS
Server behind an improperly configured firewall and/or router.
There are many Knowledge Library articles concerning Firewalls and Routers under the index
headings:
Routers
Firewalls
These articles explain almost all problems you can have with routers and firewalls, with
detailed instructions on how to solve them.
There's an additional resource on-line that you can use to test your RBS Server
installation. It's the Online
Server Tester.
This unique resource will completely test your RBS Server using a known "perfect" Client
installation and Internet Connection at RBS, just as if it were one of your own clients.
It will log into your Server, test in Active and Passive mode, attempt a backup and
restore, and verify all features of your Server. Then it will report the results to you.
The Online Server Tester does NOT have to run on the same computer as your RBS Server.
You can run it from ANY computer.
Instructions on how to use the Online Server Tester are on the Server Tester's web page.
The Online
Server Tester needs to download an Active X control to your computer. That's a small
program that runs on the Internet and allows your computer to pass commands to the Online
Server Tester.
If you get errors when you go to the Online Server Tester's web page, it probably means
that the Internet Security settings in your browser are too strict. You'll have to change
them to use the Server Tester.
Set all options that effect ActiveX Controls to "Prompt" or "Ask." Then, when you browse
to the Server Tester's web page you'll be asked if you want to download and install an
"Unsigned ActiveX Control." Answer "YES" and the Server Tester will start.
