Notes About IP Addresses
Every computer on the Internet has an IP address, a number that tells other computers how
to find it. Your Remote Backup client software needs to know how to find its Server, so it
uses the Server's IP address. Here's an example of an IP address:
216.37.76.90
Computers can also be found on the Internet by their Host Name, which is a unique
name you can give a computer that's easier to remember than an IP address. Domain
names are host names. Here are two examples of host names:
remote-backup.com
rbs1.rbsamerica.com
In the Remote Backup software you can use IP addresses and Host Names interchangeably.
Host names must be assigned by a Domain Name authority.
When you purchase your RBS Software, Remote Backup Systems, Inc. will assign your RBS
Server a Host Name so you can use your RBS Server with a dynamic IP address (one that
might change between logins).
